1921–2012
Thomas McConaghy, founding editor of the ATA News, died January 26, 2012. He is survived by his wife, June (nee Allen), and two daughters, Joanie (Dave) and Janet. McConaghy was a passionate educator who contributed to the profession as a teacher, administrator and educational journalist for more than 60 years. In 1966, he joined the Alberta Teachers’ Association, where he served as coordinator of communications. In 1967, he founded the ATA News. McConaghy was editor of the ATA Magazine for 18 years. Under his guidance, the magazine received numerous awards. A memorial service was held in Edmonton, February 3.
